Tonight I share a video with a powerful, heartfelt message from Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex. She addressed the Class of 2020 at Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles; the high school she was a graduate. Please watch the video. It is worth each of the 5 minutes and 54 seconds.
Before sharing her own experience of the Los Angeles Riots back when she was a student, she offered an apology to the class, saying,
“I’m sorry. I”m so sorry that you have to grow up where this is still present.”
“…I know that this is not the graduation that you envisioned. And this is not the celebration that you imagined.”
She continues with how this movement will be a part of the graduates futures; and her hopes for them, and charges them,
“… to see this as the beginning of you harnessing all of the work, all of the values, all the skills that you have… embodied over the last four years. And now you channel that. Now all of that work gets activated. Now you get to be part of rebuilding…
"...You know, we are going to rebuild and rebuild and rebuild until it is rebuilt.
Because when the foundation is broken; so are we!
" You are going to have empathy for those who don’t see the world through the same lens that you do; because with as diverse, and vibrant, and open-minded, as I know the teachings at Immaculate Heart are…
I know you know that Black Lives Matter.”…
"You are equipped, you are ready, we need you, and you are prepared.
"And I”m so eager to see what you are going to do…
"I’m wishing you a huge congratulations; today, the start of all the impact you are going to make in the world, as the leaders that we all so deeply crave.”
May it be so…
