Growing on on a farm, I remember the power of the seasons and of nature’s rhythm. In the midst of the pandemic, I find I’m revisiting ways of living that I learned on the farm. I have memories of the simplicity and solitude on the farm, and the ways being outside to view the corn growing, the sunrise, the sunset or the moonrise, could bring a sense of peace. I’ve moved away from that simplicity and pause… just as I moved away from the farm. I am returning to following nature’s rhythm. Mainly as self perseveration at this time. And tonight, I paused at the rise of the Pink Supermoon. I stood outside my home and in the darkness and the silence, soaked in the sight, and marveled that all over the world this night, sheltered in place, wherever and however that may be, we share this marvelous moon. Various friends texted me photos of their moon viewing or shared their excitement and wanted to make sure I knew to go out and look at the moon. "When all feels troubled on the planet, looking up invokes a sense of wonder and promise. A simple event such as a full moon that reminds people to look to the sky can be just the escape that most people need right now," said Jackie Faherty, a senior scientist at the American Museum of Natural History's Department of Astrophysics. I am attaching a video of Dr. Faherty’s description of tonight’s moon. The last time I intentionally anticipated watching the moon was a couple years ago during a stay in the Southern Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. I was staying with a couple near the forest, outside of Český Krumlov. We sat outside their home with the magic of pure night and no light distractions. With sweet wine and kolaches (Czech pastries), and our attempts to communicate with our different languages; in that moment of sharing the moon, we were connected in a way that transcended language and culture. I give thanks for the Cosmos. And I give thanks for the following prayer I’ve carried since childhood. I recited this prayer that night in the Czech Republic and I said it again tonight. I see the Moon and the Moon sees me. God bless the Moon and God bless me. May whatever you claim as something bigger than yourself… may that power bless the moon, and bless me and bless you. May it be so…
